Abstract
Children from minority background often resist going to school starting from their first school experience in preschool because of their physical differences. Often they become the target of being picked on or bullied. These children also experience crisis mainly because of their parents or caretakers' limited English proficiency. They feel frustrated because of conflicts that arise from unsolved psychological issues. Therefore, these children have hidden potential to become problem children as they grow up. Children who do not speak English have a hard time getting friends or takes long time meeting a friend. At the beginning of immigration to America, these children tend to spend time by themselves, hang around with the children from the same nationality or stay with the parents. But as they become proficient in English language, they make friends naturally. I find that the things that they enjoy playing are not much different from Korean children and other nationalities. This study involves our after school program which we have operated since 2008. We have been applying after school program within our church in order to form a community within multicultural society.
